General Description
The 5 of Cups is the card of distress, sorrow, and melancholy. It shows something broken that had been important to us up to now. It also says that we are not left alone with our pain and can reckon with the understanding and sensitive support of friends. However, this consoling aspect should not be misread as an indication that the cause of our pain is only imaginary and we should reckon with the speedy return of high spirits. This card can often be an indication of our own recklessness; that we have thought too little of something that is valuable to us and thereby destroyed it. In any case, it shows that there is a solution. It calls upon us not to stay in this dismal state any longer than necessary.
