LERNAEANHYDRA A fearsome beast with nine heads, whose very breath or odour was poison, eight of the Hydra's headswere mortal, the ninth invulnerable. As soon as one head was struck off, two more grewto take its place. To Hercules was given the task of defeating this awesome creature, aspart of his Twelve Labours.
