LEUKOTHEA Protecting goddess of those who travelled the sea, Leukothea was originally the second wife of Athamas, Ino, who plotted such wrong against his two children by Nephele. She had suckled the infant Bacchus, angering Hera, who sent her husband raving after her.She was thrown into the sea, where she took her place as a marinegoddess, friendly to all sailors, mariners and seafarers.
